My Awkward Moment..recently
I was recently invited to speak at an event with a learned European evangelical scholar. He is a delightful and insightful teacher and has written numerous books, some on the End Times. Like many older folks I've met (older being relative…near 80) he was fairly free in scowling when he heard reference to anything he would label as “unorthodox.”
Which became my embarrassing moment…
As we were both opening speakers at the conference it was important that we meet before the event. Someone introduced me to him as a “marketplace speaker.” Good enough. But when he asked what I taught about it got strange. I said that I am more and more focused on how the church makes disciples of nations. The great issue before us in this generation is the debate about how to bring the Gospel of the Kingdom into living contact with rulers and institutions as well as masses. I see it as a 7m Gen assignment to plant new powerful micro churches at the top of these mountains… like Daniel experienced in Babylon.
His reply was memorable. “You don't actually mean discipling Nation States do you?” Then he repeated, “You can't actually be talking about making disciples of nations- actual countries!?… That went around the U.K. and EU seven years ago and made a real mess of things.”
Awkward silence.
Then me assuring him that my sort of approach hasn't hit the U.K. and again involves something different than what most people talk about. I think we need to raise up Christians to go into every system and support those that are in proximity to the gates of hell.
Anyway, it was awkward because I had not met such resistance to just the “idea” of discipling nations in a long time and it got me to thinking how defensible my position is. Jolted me actually because NOBODY usually dismisses Jesus command to make disciples of nations. I should have asked him his thoughts. Maybe I am wasting my time.
Still it GALLS ME that Islam has made 51 Nations disciples of their doctrine while Jesus does not have one major city with a population above 18,000!
THATS the point – The question is not “do you actually think nations can be discipled? IT DOES NOT MATTER WHETHER YOU THINK MAKING DISCIPLES OF NATIONS IS POSSIBLE, IMPORTANT OR EVEN RELEVANT BECAUSE LIKE IT OR NOT SOMEBODY IS DISCIPLING YOURS RIGHT NOW- RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU Anti Christian politicians and activists are doing it!- and THEY are shaping not only yours but your children's future. Someone is discipling nations at all times.
SEEMS LIKE THIS OUGHT TO BE OUR FRONT BURNER CONVERSATION! Who is controlling the propaganda machine that is programming the values and beliefs of the 18-30 yr old MILLENNIAL generation who will run your country.. sooner than you think?
Its the MEDIA and ARTISTS and their PEER GROUP in the High Schools and COLLEGES under left wing whack PROFESSORS… and its the POLITICIANS. These are the gatekeepers at the GATES OF INFLUENCE.
And where is the church? If you watch Christian TV you can see – its talking to itself.
And your neighborhood church? 80% of those dear Pastors are actively focusing on survival working Bi-Vocational jobs.
The other 20% are all focused on building their church – enlarging their audience. In essence, expanding the walls of the chapel – on the U.S. TITANIC.
The body of Christ is the key. That vast army of latent potential waiting to be activated into an advancing occupying kingdom force.
YOU ARE THE AWAKENING WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR!
We need a Holy Ghost Manhattan Project! And you need to be detonated.
