NEW Lincoln Quote!
I'm a history buff. Lincoln has had so many quotes wrongly attributed to him that I now check them out. I thought I heard all the original ones…however I bought an 850 page book containing all Lincoln's writings and found a GEM!
During his famous Lincoln vs. Douglas debates about slavery, Judge Douglas (he was an Illinois Supreme Court Judge) accused Lincoln of stirring up the slavery issue because he lusted after political office. Douglas said his opponents just want to “get my place.”
In their debate Lincoln replied;
“He thinks we want to get ‘his place,' I suppose. I agree that there are office-seekers among us. The Bible says somewhere that we are desperately selfish. I think we would have discovered that fact without the Bible. I do not claim that I am any less so than the average of men, BUT I DO CLAIM THAT I AM NOT MORE SELFISH THAN JUDGE DOUGLAS.”
Tell me that guy didn't have a beautiful mind.
