In this Lance Rewind, Lance discusses the shaping of culture and discipling nations with his dear friend, Kim Clement. Did you know that 80% of prophecy in the Bible focuses on this little sliver of history, the end times? We’re living in that compressed period of time. In Matthew 28, Jesus says as he’s ascending, “all authority in heaven on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I’ve commanded you.” What strikes me as interesting about this is that we’ve somehow rewritten that verse to be “Go into all the world, preach the gospel and get some disciples in every nation.” But actually, the command here is to disciple nations and teach them.
The apostle Paul went to 23 cities, and out of those 23, 18 were governing cities. They were cities with seats of government, or they were politically running and ruling over the territory. He targeted cities to make disciples of nations.
In the West, we have powerful forces that know how to shape our culture. In the Middle East, you have Islam as a mighty nation shaping force. In both cases, you’ll see there are 7m practitioners – meaning there are seven fields that shape the discipling of nations. And if you want to capture the flag, you have to go to key cities. If you’re going to go to key cities, you have to understand what the primary mind molders are: the institutions that shape nations.
