The thing that inspired this episode was Lance's realization that the next generation doesn't appreciate the news format that John McLaughlin had at the McLaughlin group. He would get liberals and conservatives together on his program who would give their unique perspectives on the day's issues. Dana Carvey greatly satirized the program and McLaughlin himself on SNL, so Lance plays the clip to educate his office and get your views on how the McLaughlin group educated his generation's view on politics. The Mclaughlin group was informative even if it was on PBS. Pat Buchanan and Fred Barnes were good conservatives for their Era and better than the liberals.
MERCEDES, I have to tell you this…It was the Summer of 1975; my daughter, Jennifer, was 10 years old. She and I were standing out in the front yard of my mother:
(CAROLYN BASS WATSON DICKENS) house. Mother was standing out there with us. Jennifer and I were on our way home, and Mother and I were just saying our goodbyes…..It was an absolutely gorgeous summer night. The stars were out. There was no wind…..it was perfectly calm.
All of a sudden, Jennifer looked up and pointed and exclaimed: “LOOK!” The three of us looked up and hoovering low—-not right on top of us but LOW was an unidentified flying object! A Real UFO. There were lights going around and around the craft….It was not small……I guess it was just observing us! It was shocking and IT WAS VERY REAL.
Jennifer said: “I’m going to get Granddaddy!!!” And she started running toward the front porch. When she did—the UFO took off East at such a speed it was unbelievable. I know WE had nothing in this country that could have possibly moved that fast.
The Most Amazing thing about it was—It made No Sound—It did not cause any movement in the air…..everything remained perfectly still and calm just like the night was.
After Jennifer got grown and Mother was still living, we sat down and had a talk about this. Daddy was sent to Walker Air Force Base in Roswell, New Mexico in July of 1947 (He was a War Department Chemist) and was there for two years. We did not get to go there or see Daddy for those two years.
Now I will close with this: It was the Summer of 1955—I was 10 years old….it was a Saturday afternoon and Mother had been called to the hospital to scrub for an emergency surgery, so Daddy picked me up from one of my friend’s houses. I had spent the night with her.
Daddy and I were riding home, and on the radio it said something about a UFO being sited somewhere……I said: “Daddy, do you believe in UFO’s?” He did not look over at me, and he just kept driving and he said: “I sure do.” That is all he said…At that point, I got excited and begin to try to ask him questions…….He never said one word. The subject was closed PERIOD. It was Never spoken of again.
Daddy died when I was 19 years old (He was 48). Whether what we experienced in the Summer of 1975 had anything to do with us being Observed or not—–Mother is in Heaven, and Jennifer and I, I am sure, will never know.
They are REAL. Honestly, I feel that as followers of Jesus Christ that the Blood of Jesus is our protection as long as we stay in Obedience to our LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST.
I felt that I needed to tell you this. You needed to know.
MERCEDES, what I failed to tell you was Mother lived out in the country on their farm. It was not a populated area. It was wide open spaces.
I did like the Mclaughlin segment. He would always give, some number of seconds, so he could cover lots of topics. He would never cut anyone off, he would cut them short. Push, Push, Push.
I like your energy in your show. Your interaction with the thoughtful lady and the rude peanut galley is good.
