The Mountain of Me

Do you know what your mountain is and how to conquer it?

If you have been following along for a while, you have likely heard me talk about “the 7 Mountains.”

I started popularizing this image in the year 2000 because the Bible uses “mountains”  as a metaphor for world “kingdoms.” It  seemed we lacked a template in the Church world to grasp what shapes a nation and how to bring the kingdom into people's lives.

Over time, however, I came to realize that there is ONE mountain I missed. Before the seven that shape culture, I now talk about how each of us has a mountain within ourselves to conquer.

That PERSONAL MOUNTAIN—The Mountain of Me—is personal mastery. After that we come to what we do with our talent as we surrender it to our “vocation,” which is the Latin word for calling and career. This phase of the journey is called “career convergence” (personal mastery converges with our divine assignment). BUT even here we tend to focus large, when “small is the new big.”

You see, there are mountains and there are HILLS and “the strength of the hills is His also.” (Psalm 95:4)  Over the years we have walked with the Lord to engage culture and conquer hills that have led to mountains. I know there is more that God has for me, for my team, and for the ministry, to fully realize our callings and glorify Him as we share His heart with the world. Would you consider partnering with us in this mission? If you would like to give, here is the link: lancewallnau.com/mountains. Thank you for your continued support and encouragement!

David learned how to use a slingshot on a HILL. Most of us talk about mountains, but the truth is, hills lead to mountains and that's where we all start. Jesus spent 30 years in preparation for three years of work. The Master invested 91% of his energy and time in solidifying His preparedness for 9% of life lived in career convergence—at the top of His mountain. And from that 9% He conquered death. Hills are as important as mountains. Hills lead to mountains. You are never over the hill if you are king of your hill!

  1. I agree our problems are often of our own making. I am seeking help from the Holy Spirit for guidance, empowerment and answered prayer. I know I-need to yield to divine direction in the chaos in today’s world.

  2. Thank you for subjects that stir up what lies within, I believe most of God seekers and those seeking truth and answers to what is deep within us al are receiving answered . In my 70’s and still desiring to know God’s plan for mine and my husband’s life and what our part as we journey here.
I do know the enemy tries to distract most of God’s children, keeping them so busy with LIFE that we many times fail to hear his voice and direction for each of our lives. Thank you again for all you do. Blessings

  3. Thank you Lance, as I read this you reminded me of the Hills and Valleys that build us up to Climb mountains. I have followed you for years and so love your teaching.

Your post reminded me of a quote from one of our very own mountaineers who conquered Everest

“It’s not the mountain we conquer but ourselves” Sir Edmund Hillary

The training and preparedness are equally as important as the convergence of the climb itself

  5. THANK YOU, LANCE, THIS MESSAGE WITH YOU AND YOUR SON, CARL
BROUGHT BACK THE MEMORY WHEN I HAD A MENTAL BRAKE DOWN.
THANK YOU. I LIKE YOUR THOUGHT ON IF YOU CANNOT CONQUER A
HILL, YOU WILL NOT CONQUER A MOUNTAIN. THANK YOU.
I DO NOT WANT MY NAME MENTIONED AT ALL. THANK YOU

  6. Hey Lance
I enjoy reading your remarks / teachings / stories. Thank you for all the valuable insights and truth. You’re also hilarious at times, you have a natural ability to have fun, something many Christians don’t know how to do, but I’m with ya! God bless you and the team and stay safe in these purely evil times.

There really are 8 mountains…….and the first one is each of us…I’ve thought about the “me, me, me” that works inside of us……But I had not related it to the 7 mountains….

NOW—this 8th mountain brings it all together so that we can fully understand that it begins with us—and then we are able to understand each of the other 7 mountains—and how we can apply our talents and abilities to work within each mountain—whether in a large way or a small way—EACH OF US HAS A PART TO PLAY. Thanks LANCE!
