If you look up an archaeologist, Ronald Eldon Wyatt (Ron Wyatt), he believed he found the Ark of the Covenant in a chamber in the lower part of Mr. Calvary, directly beneath the place where Jesus was crucified. His blood ran down onto the ground and trickled through the holes in the rock that emptied directly upon the Mercy seat.
Ron was officially given permission for the excavation and actually had official written permission from Israel government to do his excavations. Israel will deny this publicly but Ron had the documentation. He passed away and there is a recorded interview of him not long before he died concerning his finding the Ark of the Covenant. He made many other discoveries also.
