A Good Kind of Scared

Have you ever been nervous about a new opportunity or decision? In truth, we’ve all been there!

If it scares you, it simply means you are doing something you are not yet comfortable doing—or that you are stepping into significant and unknown territory. It does not mean you will get hurt and it doesn't mean you are not courageous. In fact, nobody is really courageous if they feel no fear. The courageous person is the one who does not let the fear they feel control them. In fact every time you move toward the thing you fear, you expand. Every time you do the thing you need to do in spite of fear, you redefine who you are to the one person whose opinion matters most—YOU. Every barrier you break, every fear you overcome, makes you larger on the inside.

What other people think is of little account as long as you guard the reputation you have with yourself. If the thing you are dancing around is not something that is going to cause you physical harm, you need to ask yourself—who will I become if I do this? Every reward you have in life is attached to your growth and your greatest growth comes when you risk something.

Courage is not always a physical test. Some are physically courageous but timid in expressing their feelings or having that courageous conversation they have been avoiding. If it scares you, you should look at it twice and ask, “if I do this thing will it make me larger?” If the answer is yes, do it!

  1. Perfect timing! I am a single mother of two daughters. My oldest moved out 7 years ago, but she still lives close by. My youngest recently got married. She and my son-in-love have lived with me for the past 3-1/2 months and now they are moving out of state. My heart began to feel heavy today as we packed for their move at the end of the week. I declared my righteousness , I prayed, I spoke out loud against the anxiety, fear, sadness, but just couldn’t shake the overwhelming feeling. And then I read your email! While it wasn’t exactly what I was experiencing, I was encouraged nonetheless! And my heart is comforted . Thank you!

  2. Likewise, if we feel unsettled about a decision, a fear of making the wrong decision perpetuates doubt in the ability to decide.

Courage can blow one through the doubt, but at some place we experience the angst of false bravado.

‘Tis better to jump into a wild goose chase, than to jump on a goose without a net.

  3. This ‘Courage’ email arrived less than an hour after I had received an opportunity that will take me totally out of my much loved comfort zone.
I have no doubt that it came bang on time in order to help me face my insecurities, fears and pride and make the decision to step out and grow larger in the process!
We are privileged to begin partnering with you this year….. connecting to make a difference!

  4. Amongst many I can relate to your program episode on “God whisper in a world of noise” episode. 🙏❤️🙌😍🙌🙌. Thank for sharing 🥰😎
