I remember how painful it was to discover that major papers, USA TODAY in particular, had entire editorial boards denouncing Donald Trump and urging their readers to vote for Hillary. They never did this with any other Presidential election. They have been at war with him ever since he won. They are trying to bury him in Ukraine because he would not expire in Russia.
Now, they are about to lose their print edition. Their PRINT edition! And that’s too bad because it’s a useful paper. But it is a sort of a boomerang to curse Trump and find your own ink wells dry up.
Their announcement began like this…
“In the 34-year history of USA TODAY, the Editorial Board has never taken sides in the presidential race. Instead, we’ve expressed opinions about the major issues and haven’t presumed to tell our readers, who have a variety of priorities and values, which choice is best for them. Because every presidential race is different, we revisit our no-endorsement policy every four years. We’ve never seen reason to alter our approach. UNTIL NOW…
That’s what USA TODAY wrote as they listed their reasons for rejecting Trump. Now they have to surrender the print edition.
Will other papers follow?
